Creating The Perfect Hotel At Sea, Holland America’s Eurodam

Hotel Director StanStan Kuppens, lives to go to sea and it’s a good thing since he spends several months at sea as the Hotel Director aboard Holland America’s Eurodam. Stan joins Paul and Elizabeth to talk about the challenges of running a fine hotel at sea and also the advantages of a life at sea. Stan has had the opportunity to launch several of Holland America Lines new ships and has sailed several world cruises. A native of Nijmegen, the Netherlands, Kuppens always enjoyed sailing on different vessels traveling up and down the Waal and Rhine rivers. A frequent world traveler with his parents, Kuppens recognized that he needed to find a way to combine his love for travel and his appreciation for hospitality to support a career. So after graduating from the University of Hotel Management, he came to work for Holland America Line and was selected to be a part of the prestigious Management Trainee program — a multi-year program that provides training in all aspects of the Hotel Department, eventually leading to the hotel manager position. Kuppens has sailed with Holland America Line for 22 years, including the preparation and sailing of multiple Grand World Voyages and cruises to all continents around the world.
